How to clean your Silicone toy:

Forbidden Fruit recommends using a dedicated toy cleaner whenever possible as these products are designed to thoroughly clean and then rinse film free from your toys, but there are methods and products that will work just as well. Read on and remember, take care of your toys and they will take care of you.

Basic Cleaning:

  • Antibacterial dish or hand soap may be used to hand wash your silicone toy. A great recipe is 4 parts water to 1 part soap in a spray bottle.  Use mild antibacterial soap. This mixture will gently clean your toy without leaving or developing a film.

Sterilization (toy with electrical components)

  • Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol may be used to sterilize your toy.  Use wipes (like from a first aid kit) or douse a lint free cloth and wipe.
  • Bleach solution may be used to sterilize your toy.  The bleach solution should be 10%.  Mix 9 parts water with 1 part bleach. Soak your toy for at least 3 min to ensure sterilization

Sterilization (toy, usually dildos, without electrical components)

  • Top rack dishwasher safe! Yup, thats right. Just go ahead and toss it right in.
  • Submerge in boiling water  for 3 min to ensure sterilization.  Remove toy with tongs and allow to cool as silicone is a great heat conductor and will remain hot for a few minutes after sterilization.

Lubricant:

Forbidden Fruit recommends a water based lube for use with silicone toys.  Some silicone lubricants can have a curious reaction with silicone toys and in some cases will cause a deterioration of the material.  This is not the case with all silicone lubes however, and if you are absolutely monogamous with your silicone lube, please perform a spot test at the base of your toy.  Squeeze a drop of lube onto the toy in an inconspicuous spot and let sit for 2 minutes. If no damage occurs,  proceed to fun, slippery times.  Otherwise, wash immediately with soap and water and proceed with a water based lubricant.
